Dune Awakening

I've never seen Dune...

Going into this game with little knowledge of Dune Lore to see if a brand new player can play without watching any of the series.

Rise from survival to greatness and challenge the power of an Imperium in Dune: Awakening, a multiplayer survival game on a massive scale. Survive the sandworm, craft your ornithopter, build a fortress, and ascend to power on an open world Arrakis shared with hundreds of other players.

Let’s dig into this review!

Graphics

The graphics and environment are pretty impressive. The scale and detail of the world seem to really take on a character of it’s own. Even if you don’t have a beastly PC this game can run fairly nicely with low settings. It even has a Low-end laptop experimental toggle in the graphics settings.

Controls Learning Curve

The tutorial does a really nice job at guiding you through the start of the game. Even so the controls aren’t really that complicated. Especially if you’re used to survivor multiplayer games.

Storyline

Again, I haven’t seen any of the Dune Series. So this is coming from someone that knows very little about the lore. Right off the bat, the game is super intense. The storyline seems extremely dramatic and the action starts right away. What I’ve experienced from the story does make me want to go binge everything Dune.

Gameplay

This is a survivor multiplayer game. Crafting, Building, and exploration are at the heart of it. There are some familiar mechanics like the sun exposure meter and the Sandworm noise meter. The sun exposure reminded me of V Rising. Which this game feels very similar too. Just not top down. Gameplay feels great and I’m looking to explore even more when I can eventually get to the Endgame.

Replayability

Tons. TONS of replayability here. Really any survival game has loads of hours you can sink into it. Pairing with the Dune universe and lore. There’s just so much to explore. Different classes, dialogue, and building schematics. There’s alot of content here.

Final Thoughts

Funcom learned alot from Conan Exiles. It’s obvious they took it and ran with it. This isn’t just a Conan reskin. It really does dive deep into the Dune Universe. With all new mechanics. This has pulled me in even without knowing much of the lore. If you enjoy survival multiplayer you’ll enjoy this one. It you enjoy Dune, you’ll probably live in the game.
