Now let’s blast off into this review!
Graphics
Rocket Squad looks fantastic for an early access indie game. In some cases looks like a AAA type game when it comes to the graphics. From the environments to the characters and enemies. The game looks incredible. I feel like this is probably the best thing it has going for it at the moment.
Controls Learning Curve
I first attempted to use a controller and it went pretty poorly. The left stick is mapped to the text chat for some reason. So My brain is so used to left stick being sprint. In the first mission I attempted to sprint each time but opened the text chat. Then after that I wasn’t able to use my primary attack. So I ended up dying quickly. I went back into a mission immediately after with Mouse and Keyboard. This time I didn’t have any issues. So just be careful with using a controller. You might need to map some buttons.
Storyline
The story is there but assuming it’s being developed as they go. It seems like theres a foundation of collecting resources from planets and that’s why you need to go do these drop ship style extraction missions.
Gameplay
Honestly the early gameplay wasn’t bad. It felt like the game again has a solid foundation of different types of characters and weapons. Different playstyles. I was the tank with the hammer. Smashing things was fun. The ultimate and secondary abilities worked well. So the combat felt fine to me.
Replayability
I’m not sure if there’s a whole lot of varying missions right now. The game is still early. But there were many different planets and missions with different difficulties. So there does seem to be quite alot of replayability here.
Final Thoughts
I think there’s alot of things Rocket Squad Infinity does well. They have a great start to what could be a very fun multiplayer game. But be aware there are some bugs. The controller issue was a sad one for me as I enjoy playing this type of game with a controller. It’s more comfortable. So there’s much to work on but so far it’s headed in the right direction.
