Josh becomes the Dark Knight in the newest addition to the Arkham series, Batman Arkham Shadow by Camouflaj.
Become The Knight in this groundbreaking entry into the famed Arkham series. It’s the Fourth of July, and Gotham City is under attack by a new threat: the mysterious Rat King and his cultish devotees. As widespread rioting engulfs the city, Batman races to prevent this so-called “Day of Wrath” before it all goes wrong.

Graphics
Stepping into Gotham city in VR is an amazing experience in Arkham Shadow. The Quest 3 really shines with this game. Graphics are incredibly impressive for a Meta exclusive game and near to the experience of PCVR. I got chills crawling through vents and seeing the cobwebs. The detail of the city. Looking up and seeing the Bat signal in the sky. WHEW. This is a beautiful VR game.
Controls Learning Curve
I was a little skeptical on how the controls would work. If you’ve played an Arkham game before on Console or PC. You know there’s alot of chain attacks and combos. But I gotta tell ya, this game handled it perfectly. Mostly physical movements makes you really immersed in the game. The game does a great job at walking you through the story to begin the game and also teach you the controls. Nice job here.
Storyline
This is an Arkham game. So it seems fair to assume you’ll get a great story with it. That’s 100% the case. The story follows maybe a lesser known character to the general audience, the Rat King. It also brings in some familiar face which I don’t want to spoil for you. But from the main story to the side quests of destroying rat king statues and broadcasts (Similar to Riddler Trophies in the original games). The storyline keeps you right in the middle of a deeply intense Gotham mystery.
Gameplay
Holy. Crap. I should mention I was playing on Immersive mode. The mechanics in this game have you feeling like Batman. The combat is fluid and smooth. The gadgets like the Batarang and even gliding with the cape. It’ll give you goosebumps. The detective vision feels so much better in VR than on a flat screen. Legitimately you FEEL like Batman in this game.
Replayability
I do see myself playing this ALOT. The game includes combat and predator challenges (The Stealth missions). Along with the Rat king statues and propaganda broadcasts you’ll need to fins in the main story. But there’s so much to keep bringing you back to the game.
For example, I hold the Vader Immortal series in very high regard. Mainly because I can go back to the Lightsaber dojo and Complete levels of enemies using the lightsaber. So that keeps me going back to the game.
With Arkham Shadow I feel like the combat challenges and predator challenges could feel the same way. Having a bad day? Jump in VR and kick the crap out of some bad guys.
Final Thoughts
I’m just going to say this is a must-have for VR. Even more so if you’re a fan of Batman or the Arkham series. Camouflaj does an incredible job at making this feel like it deserves to be in the series. The immersive feeling of the combat, gadgets, and detective vision….it’s all seriously impressive. The fact you can play this on the standalone Quest is amazing too. Taking your experience with Batman wherever you want. This game is what VR should be. I’m excited that this has really checked all the boxes for me.
