Now let’s get into the full review.. ya scallywag!

Graphics

Graphics on Pirates VR were surprisingly pretty good! Not mind blowingly realistic but it’s enough to look around at the surroundings thinking “Ok this looks good.” Some of the textures get a little lost on the ground or sand areas but rocks, trees, skeletons it all looks very good for a VR game.

Controls Learning Curve

The controls were pretty easy to pick up. Alot of the game is pretty immersive. So for example, picking up an apple and holding it to your face to eat and regain health. It’s all pretty much what you’d expect. Grabbing the rope of the zipline. I will say make sure to check your options before you launch the game. I hope this gets patched but holding the menu button, as the game instructs in the tutorial, never pulled up the menu for me. Probably an easy bug fix but it did prevent me from changing any possible comfort settings in game.

Storyline

The story seems pretty interesting. Obviously you’re a pirate doing pirate things. Then there’s another layer of ancient mystery you have to uncover the further you go and more puzzles you solve. Some of the relics and symbols you find start to look familiar and the story continues to get more and more interesting.

Gameplay

The gameplay is great. The developer split light studio really put together an immersive feeling game. Things need to be touched, pushed, and pulled. That just adds to how deep you can get into the game. I love when VR devs go all in to make the game immersive.

Replayability

I don’t think there’s much in the way of replayability right now. You can try to 100% it by finding all the coins and treasure but there could be something added down the line that could bring you back in. Like adding special pirate collectables or different unlockable items.

Final Thoughts

Honestly, I had my eye on this for a little while. The trailer caught my eye and….who wouldn’t want to be a pirate in VR. The progression and the puzzles keep it interesting. I wish there was a little more content to collect or do. But this is a pretty good VR title if you’re looking to escape on a puzzled filled adventure.
